Thomas AT-602 Wedges

Thomas Golf may not produce the high volumes of clubs Callaway does, but they sure know
how to make a great club.
We tested their new AT-602 Muscle-back Wedges, fitted with
Dynamic Gold Sensicore steel shafts in regular flex.
The first thing that caught our eye was the quality chrome finishing and clean lines.
They then took an extra
step to blast the top-plane and toe area of the club with glass
beads to give a smooth finish that would not reflect glare
into the golfer’s eyes.
Just like their AT-505 line of Irons and Wedges, the AT-602 has their patented alignment
indicator. It’s
a black line on the top of the club like a putter, but the key to making
this seemingly simple idea so effective, was
their redesign of the top-plane to make it
level to the ground. This insures that whatever the golfers height or
stance, the indicator
will always be pointing directly along the target-line of the clubface. Using this indicator
greatly increased our accuracy around the green and we found ourselves making a lot more chip-ins.
Keep in mind, this AT-602 model is a players club. The head is smaller with a more concentrated
mass than over-sized
cavity backs. Consistent ball-strikers like this concentrated sweet-spot,
as it allows them to “work”
their shot and get more feedback on mis-hits. Also, the smaller
head and rounder sole slide through the grass and
sand better. But, if you are not a
consistently accurate ball-striker, your game may be better off with a cavity-back
Wedge.
Not only does Thomas Golf sell directly to the public at wholesale prices, but they also
custom build your set at
no extra charge. This is a nice feature, and we found their
turn-around time to be very efficient, only 5 days from
the time we ordered till it arrived at
our door. They also sell single clubs so golfers can try one out before committing
to a whole set.
